Grant, O Lord, that the men and women of our nation may devote themselves heartily to the common cause, not seeking gain for themselves, but placing the needs of others above their own interests, giving much and taking little; that we may all know the joy of service and the discipline of self-denial, for the sake of him who died for us, our Saviour Jesus Christ.
